UK based
Advising and assisting businesses and individuals with all aspects of UK immigration and nationality law.
About Legato
We specialise in the complex and ever-changing area of personal and business immigration. Working exclusively in UK immigration and nationality law has given us extensive experience and a detailed understanding of the field.
Keeping up with changes to the rules and how they affect our clients is part of our everyday work.
We are based in Basingstoke and work with clients across the UK, as well as people and businesses overseas who need help with UK immigration matters.
Much of our work comes through recommendations and clients returning to us as their circumstances change.
We take the time to get to know our clients, give honest advice and keep them informed throughout their case.
Our fees are fixed and agreed before we start work. We explain what they cover and set out any separate costs, including Home Office fees, from the beginning.

The Founder
Agata has worked in UK immigration law since 2010 and qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2015. In 2021, she qualified as an immigration adviser and founded Legato, a specialist practice now regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA), formerly the OISC.
She advises individuals, families and businesses on UK immigration and nationality matters, including complex asylum, human rights and deportation cases.
Her work includes sponsor licences, work and family visas, settlement and British citizenship. She has a particular interest in protecting the rights of EU nationals and their families.
Agata holds a master’s degree from the University of Łódź and continued her legal education at London South Bank University and BPP Law School. Before founding Legato, she gained experience at a leading UK law firm specialising in human rights.
She also holds accreditation under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme as a Level 2 Senior Caseworker and Supervisor, covering immigration and asylum casework and the supervision of other caseworkers.
For individuals and families
Joining your family in the UK, or continuing your life here together, requires the right immigration permission. We assist with partner, child, parent and adult dependent relative applications, including extensions, and advise on the financial, relationship and other evidence required.
Your time in the UK and your personal circumstances may provide a basis to stay or apply for settlement. We advise on indefinite leave to remain, long residence and private life applications, including cases involving gaps in permission or periods spent abroad.
Eligibility for British citizenship depends on your immigration history, residence and family circumstances. We advise on naturalisation and registration, including applications for children, and assist with cases where the Home Office is considering depriving someone of their citizenship.
Settled status · Pre-settled status · Joining family members · Late applications
We assist with settled and pre-settled status, applications by joining family members and late applications. Our advice covers residence requirements, absences from the UK and evidence of family relationships. If you have missed your deadline, we assess the reasons for the delay and the evidence needed to support your application.
A visitor application should clearly explain why you are coming to the UK, how you will support yourself and why you will leave at the end of your stay. We assist with applications for family visits, holidays and permitted business activities, including applications following an earlier refusal.
The BN(O) route allows eligible people from Hong Kong and their family members to live in the UK. We advise on who can apply, the supporting evidence and applications to extend permission or settle in the UK.
We review the Home Office decision, explain the options available and advise on the grounds for challenging it. We assist with preparing the appeal and the evidence needed to support your case.
A fee waiver may be available for certain immigration applications if you cannot afford the Home Office fees. We assess whether you qualify and help prepare evidence of your financial circumstances, essential living costs and the needs of any children.
People with refugee status or humanitarian protection may qualify to settle in the UK. We advise on the requirements that apply to your permission and assist with settlement applications for you and eligible family members.
Facing deportation requires advice on both the Home Office’s reasons and your individual circumstances. We assist with responses to deportation action, relevant human rights grounds and applications to revoke deportation orders, and advise on whether a decision can be challenged.
For employers, businesses and entrepreneurs
Employing workers who require sponsorship involves duties that continue beyond the initial licence application. We assist with obtaining a sponsor licence and advise on its day-to-day management, including record keeping, reporting changes and responding to Home Office compliance concerns.
We advise employers and applicants on the Skilled Worker route, including sponsorship, eligible roles, salary thresholds and English language requirements. We assist with visa applications, extensions, changes of employer and settlement.
Overseas businesses can use the Global Business Mobility routes to send eligible staff to the UK for temporary assignments. We advise on company transfers, graduate placements, UK expansion, service provision and secondments, including the sponsorship and visa requirements for each route.
Global Talent is a route for established and emerging leaders in research, academia, arts and culture, or digital technology. We advise on endorsement requirements and qualifying awards, and assist with visa applications, extensions and settlement.
The Innovator Founder route is for entrepreneurs establishing an innovative business in the UK, with endorsement from an approved body. We advise on the immigration requirements and evidence needed, from the initial application through to extensions and eligibility for settlement.
Existing Sole Representative visa holders may be able to extend their stay or qualify for settlement. We advise on the continuing requirements and help prepare evidence of the overseas business, its UK branch or subsidiary, and the applicant’s role.
With the route closed to new applicants and the extension deadline passed, existing Tier 1 Investor visa holders need to consider their remaining options. We advise on settlement eligibility, investment and residence evidence, and the applicable deadlines.
The Tier 1 Entrepreneur route is closed to new applications and extensions. We advise existing visa holders on whether they qualify for settlement under the remaining transitional provisions, and on other immigration options where settlement is no longer available.
Employers may face a civil penalty if someone is found to be working illegally and the required right to work checks were not completed correctly. We assess the Home Office’s allegations, review the employment records and advise on responding to or objecting to a penalty.
